synopsis

The Fighting Temptations tells that after lying about having a college degree to land a big advertising account, a New York executive's life falls apart when the truth is revealed. His debtors come after him, forcing him to flee and return to his southern hometown when his great-aunt dies. At the will reading, he discovers he's been appointed the choir director of her church, with the promise of inheriting $150,000 worth of stock if he can lead the choir to victory at the Gospel Explosion in Atlanta. But the choir is in disarray, and he must recruit new members, including three prisoners and a "sinner" from a local nightclub. Though initially met with resistance, the "sinner's" incredible voice wins over everyone except the judgmental church busybody.
