synopsis

Retreat tells that Kate, a journalist, and Martin, an architect, are desperate to save their marriage after the tragic stillbirth of their first child. To reignite their love, they escape to the isolated and picturesque Blackholme Island off the west coast of Scotland, where they once shared a romantic getaway. However, the rugged island's harsh and cold conditions make their retreat more challenging than they anticipated. Their already fragile relationship is put to the test as they lose contact with the mainland due to generator and communication failures. Things take a dark turn when an injured man, dressed in military fatigues and carrying a gun, washes up on the shore and identifies himself as Private Jack Corman, a British soldier carrying a deadly message. With the threat of an airborne virus sweeping Europe, Private Corman insists that the only way to survive is to seal themselves in the cottage. Kate and Martin must decide if they can trust this stranger and survive the harsh conditions while dealing with their own marital issues.
