synopsis

Lantana tells that the interconnected lives of a diverse group of individuals in Sydney form the narrative tapestry of this story. Police detective Leon Zat and his wife Sonja struggle with unspoken problems that have strained their marriage, impacting their relationship and their roles as parents to their teenage sons. Leon's partner, Detective Claudia Weis, keenly observes these issues but is entangled in her own complicated relationship. Meanwhile, Leon engages in an extramarital affair with Jane O'May, a recently separated woman from his salsa dance class. Jane, seeking connection, interprets the affair differently than Leon. The marital troubles of Jane's neighbors, Nik and Paula D'Amato, who are friends with both couples, further complicate the web of emotions. Despite financial struggles, Nik cares for their children while Paula works tirelessly. Sonja finds solace in therapy with Dr. Valerie Somers, concealing this from Leon. Valerie, grappling with the grief of her daughter's murder, and her husband John Knox experience emotional distance in their marriage. Valerie's client Patrick Phelan navigates a secret affair with a man in a heterosexual marriage, unaware of Valerie's personal bias. As their stories converge, a mysterious disappearance and suspected foul play bring their emotional struggles to the forefront, influencing the course of the investigation.
