synopsis

His Girl Friday tells that Hildy Johnson, a star reporter at The Morning Post in New York City, returns after a four-month absence to tell her boss, Walter Burns, that she's quitting. She divorced Walter, her former husband, because she wanted a more domestic life, while Walter saw her as a hard-nosed reporter rather than a submissive housewife. Hildy reveals she's getting married to Bruce Baldwin, an insurance agent, and they're leaving on the afternoon train to Albany. Walter, who still loves Hildy, does whatever he can to persuade her to stay. He offers her a big story, the unjust execution of convicted cop killer Earl Williams, and tries to undermine Bruce's worthiness as a husband. Hildy is torn between her love of journalism and her personal life. Ultimately, she must decide if chasing the story is worth the potential cost to her happiness.
