synopsis

John, a South Carolina US Army Special Operations soldier, takes a summer break from his base in Germany to visit his widowed father. While hanging out at the pier, he meets Savannah, a college student, and her friends, including a terminally ill father and his young son. John falls in love with Savannah and learns that his father is mildly autistic. He initially plans to not reenlist, but the events of 9/11 change his plans and Savannah cannot stand by as their friends desperately need help.
