In 1995, 11-year-old hip-hop enthusiast Eddie Huang had just moved with his family from Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown to the Orlando suburbs. Jessica is concerned that her family has lost their Chinese identity as a result of their extensive assimilation into Orlando culture. As a result, she frantically tries to get everyone to reconnect with their culture.
