synopsis

The story of Cathy and Heathcliff, two lovers whose love is thwarted by societal constraints and circumstances, is one of unrequited affection. When Cathy's father, Mr. Earnshaw, takes in the abandoned Heathcliff as a child, the two form a bond. However, after Mr. Earnshaw's death, Cathy's brother, Hindley, becomes the master of the estate and relegates Heathcliff to a life as a stable boy among the servants, effectively putting a class divide between Cathy and Heathcliff. Cathy ultimately marries wealthy Edgar Linton, and Heathcliff disappears for years before returning as a wealthy man, but their love remains unfulfilled.
