synopsis

Axel Freed, a prosperous university professor, is plagued by an addiction to gambling. Despite the highs of his occasional victories, he quickly loses everything he has won. He turns to his girlfriend for financial support, then his wealthy mother, and eventually resorts to borrowing from a dangerous loan shark. Axel's situation continues to deteriorate as he struggles to curb his addiction. When his girlfriend departs, his mother disowns him, and he falls in debt to a ruthless gangster, Axel determines to make one last big win. He aims to pay off all his debts, save his life, and preserve his self-respect by winning a fortune.
