synopsis

The Disaster Artist tells that Greg Sestero, a 19-year-old aspiring actor in San Francisco, befriends Tommy Wiseau, an eccentric man who claims to be from New Orleans but has an unidentifiable European accent, in their acting class. Despite Tommy's odd habits and mysterious background, Greg is drawn to his fearlessness, and they move to Los Angeles to pursue their careers. While Greg signs with a talent agent and goes to auditions, Tommy is consistently rejected and begins to feel that Greg's girlfriend is sabotaging their friendship. When Greg's auditions start to dry up, Tommy decides to make a film for them to star in, which becomes The Room. However, Tommy's controlling behavior and lack of experience cause problems during production, and the nonsensical plot and bizarre directorial and acting choices bewilder the cast and crew. Greg confronts Tommy about his behavior and their friendship deteriorates, but they reconcile at the premiere of The Room, where the audience reacts with laughter.
